Mini Shelter Building

This workshop is designed in two halves. The first half takes place in an indoor classroom and involves students learning how to make mini hunter-gatherers from pipe cleaners and dressing their creations in Stone Age furs. A wooded area is necessary for the second half when students are given the challenge of building mini shelters for their pipe cleaner people from twigs, branches and plant material lying around on the woodland floor. At the end of the workshop, the robustness of the shelters is tested using a watering can to simulate rain.

This session is a firm favourite with pupils and is an excellent follow on to the ‘Footsteps in the Stone Age’ story/walk.
