Footsteps in the Stone Age

A very special ‘hands on’ moorland walk which will take students back through time to 8000 years ago to help them discover how people lived in the Stone Age. On the walk, students will be told a story about a group of hunter-gatherers set in the Mesolithic and will encounter a variety of scenarios including hunting, building shelters, making fire and gathering wild foods. They will have the opportunity to handle more than 25 replica artefacts made of flint, bone, antler, clay and wood and they will also be offered the chance to dress up in period costume! This activity is both fun and informative. It is designed to be an on-road (i.e on footpaths/tracks) circuit walk that can be adapted to any local moorland or upland area and tailor made to suit individual requirements.

For bookings on Ilkley Moor, the walk will take in some of the best known Bronze Age rock art and pupils will be given time to study and make drawings of the fascinating carvings.
